With many opportunities for training and advancement, more than 80% of our management team is promoted from within. Individuals with a positive attitude and a desire to progress in their career can take advantage of our many training and development programs.

Internal Talent Program

A 6-month rotational leadership development program designed to help our team members become successful leaders. Giving participants exposure to all areas of the facility, deepening their understanding of how all departments and teams work together to produce our high-quality products.

JBS Trainee Program

Open to individuals graduating from a related degree program, this management training program encompasses work experience in various disciplines within the business over the course of 12 to 18 months, ultimately the goal is that the graduates of this program become management within the company.

Trades Apprenticeship Program

Our maintenance team is made up of more than 160 individuals from many different disciplines including electricians, instrumentation technicians, welders, millwrights, plumbers, power engineers and many others. Those who are enrolled in an apprenticeship program are given the opportunity to complete their education with the tuition paid by the company.

Foundation Leadership Skills

In a partnership with the local college, Medicine Hat Brooks Campus, individuals from the management team are offered a three-day refresher certificate course for career and leadership development.

Languages Courses On-site

English as a Second Language (ESL) Course

English as a second language (ESL) courses are offered to all JBS Team Members. From Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 0 up to and including Level 4 and CELPIP preparation classes.

English in the Workplace Course

Team members who speak English as a second language and are interested in becoming a Lead Hand or Supervisor are given the opportunity to develop their language skills in relation to terminology and requirements they would directly encounter in a management role.

Leadership Warehouse

Leadership Warehouse provides training for all levels of management, from front-line Supervisors to high-level management.

People First: Leadership training for ALL front line supervisors in the company

Way of Leading: Leadership training for mid-level managers who lead other managers

Summit: Our flagship leadership development program intended for high level leaders

Elective Learnings: Complementary training for any leader interested in improving their skills in a specific area
